What is a Heavy Vehicle Technician?
A Heavy Vehicle Technician is responsible for maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing a wide range of heavy vehicles including lorries, buses, and coaches. Building on the foundations gained as a Service Technician, this role involves more complex mechanical work and a deeper understanding of vehicle systems.

Working in a fast-paced workshop or depot environment, Heavy Vehicle Technicians ensure vehicles remain safe, compliant, and operational. They play a critical role in keeping fleets running efficiently by identifying faults, carrying out repairs, and supporting the overall maintenance strategy of the business.
Your responsibilities
- Carry out servicing, maintenance and repairs on heavy vehicles
- Diagnose mechanical and basic electrical faults
- Replace and repair vehicle components
- Conduct inspections to ensure road worthiness and complience
- Use diagnostic tools and equipment
- Complete job cards and maintenance documentation
