What is a Heavy Vehicle Diagnostic Technician?
A Diagnostic Technician specialises in identifying and resolving complex faults in heavy vehicles, using advanced diagnostic tools and a deep understanding of vehicle systems. This role builds on Senior Technician experience and focuses on pinpointing issues quickly and accurately to minimise vehicle downtime.

Working in a workshop or depot, Diagnostic Technicians deal with electrical, electronic, and mechanical faults that are often difficult to identify. They play a critical role in supporting the wider team by providing expert guidance and ensuring repairs are carried out efficiently and correctly.
Your responsibilities
- Diagnose complex electrical, mechanical and electronic faults
- Use advanced diagnostic equipment and software
- Interpret fault codes and technical data
- Support technicians with challenging repairs
- Ensure accurate and efficient fault resolution
- Keep up-to-date with new vehicle technologies and systems
