What is a Baker?

A baker weighs, mixes, shapes, proves and bakes bread, pastries, cakes and other products. The role combines practical production skills with recipe accuracy, food safety, timing, quality control and customer needs. Bakers may work in craft bakeries, supermarket in-store bakeries, hotels or wholesale and production sites, and often develop through structured workplace training or an apprenticeship.
