What is a Mechanical and Electrical Trim Technician?
A Vehicle Damage Mechanical Electrical Trim Technician works in the vehicle body repair sector of the motor industry. The role is to identify damaged mechanical and electrical components on a damaged car/light commercial vehicle and remove and refit these components before and after body repair work has been carried out. They typically work on repairing vehicles that have been involved in accidents or similar incidents.
Your responsibilities
- Assessing damage to a vehicle in terms of mechanical and electrical components
- Using diagnostic equipment to diagnose and repair electric faults
- Stripping and refitting parts on vehicles which have been involved in an accident
- Fixing mechanical damage e.g. engine, suspension or steering
- Repairing or replacing damaged panels and components to a required standard
- Using a computerised machine to align wheels on a vehicle
- Ordering necessary parts for vehicles from parts department
- Working from job cards which detail what work to be done on a vehicle
- Preparing invoices for completed work and passing this over to the accounts department
