What is a Retail Assistant?
A Retail Assistant is responsible for providing excellent customer service, stocking shelves, processing payments, and helping maintain the store’s appearance and organisation. They work on the shop floor of retail stores, report to the Shop Manager, and handle tasks such as selling products, handling customer enquiries, and restocking merchandise.
Your responsibilities
- Assisting customers in finding products, providing information about products, and addressing any concerns or questions they may have
- Processing sales transactions accurately, handling payments (cash, credit/debit cards, mobile payments), and providing customers with receipts

Keeping the store tidy and
well-organised, including restocking shelves, arranging displays, and maintaining visual merchandising standards to attract customers
- Monitoring and replenishing stock levels, conducting stock checks, and reporting any discrepancies or shortages to the management
- Good understanding of the products sold in the store, including features, benefits, pricing, and any promotions or discounts
- Receiving and unpacking merchandise deliveries, checking for accuracy, and ensuring that items are properly stored or displayed
